Hawaii Day Quilted Wall Hanging

Hello there,

I am not able to blog all my sewing projects now a days. But couldn't resist myself from sharing the one I finished yesterday.

I made  another paper piecing quilt block from Linda Causee's "365 Foundation Quilt blocks" book

Below is the picture of the block I did.

Front
Back

The original centre block from the book measures 7"X 7". I had to add bigger border fabrics to make sure that it becomes a decent sized wall hanging. My finished size is 13"X 14". Next time I will make sure to magnify it to 150% or more.

It is amazing when I look back, my instinct always helps me to select the right fabrics!!!!!

Hope you made something which made you smile too :-).

Love,
Jyothi

Zippered Cross Body Pouch

Hello there,

Hope everyone is keeping yourselves warm with this terrible winter. I wanted to show the cross body zippered pouch I made for my daughter.  This bag measures around 6.5"X8".

I attached a small fleece heart shaped embellishment to the front.

For the first time, I made a video tutorial for this bag. As there are tons of tutorials in English, I made this one with my native language Kannada.

Hope you had a wonderful year. Wishing you a very happy NEW YEAR filled with HAPPINESS and PEACE.

Love,
Jyothi

Quilted Double Zippered Pouch

Hello there,

Its been a while I posted anything here. All of a sudden, I started feeling a little weird about showing off my work!!! But few of my friends started asking me why was I not writing any blog posts. Then again I met some new friends. They looked at my blog and were motivated to take their sewing machines out!!!!!!!!!! What else would I need? If I inspire 1 out of 100 people, spending my time writing blog posts is worth it.

I have done so many sewing projects in a span of 4-5 months. I will be adding them eventually. First let me share the pouch I did in an evening.

This will be a gift for my sister. She wanted a pouch for quite a while....finally I  got some time to do it.

I used leftover scraps from "Cotton and Steel fabric line, which I used for one of my big quilts. I quilted cross hatch design....not sure if it is visible in the picture.

The finished pouch turned out to be 8"x6". Looks perfect for my sister's usage.
If you are a beginner looking for this type of double zippered pouches,  here is the link for a tutorial by Venessa at Craftygemini. I did my own measurements and shapes. Now I wish I added another zipper to the lining too. Also, I added batting to the outer layer and medium weight interfacing to the lining. Here is another picture which shows lining and zipper tabs.

I hope you had the first snowfall by now....if not feel free to visit Michigan. we have plenty of snow!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for stopping by.

Love,
Jyothi

Growing Up QAL Improv Piecing (May-Block)

Hello there,
Just wanted to share my part of the may blocks QAL by Alida. If you are interested in joining, you still can do bonus block and join the free e-mail list.

Our challenge for the month  of may is Improv Blocks.

Here is the twisted log cabin block. This was a very fun block to play with.

The next block is curved Improv. Now I wish I would have made some curves in the middle too :-).

I also re-did another paper piecing cardinal, which I made back in October -2016. It still needs to be quilted though.
Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend. Thanks for stopping by :-)

Sewing for a cause

Hello there,

Hope spring is cheering you up!!!! It sure is cheering me up :-).

2 weeks ago I was reading a post by Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl  and came to know about the busy bag sew along. This sew along was to the benefit of  sadies dream for a cure. It was a nice opportunity to brighten up a kid's day. Pattern and labels for this project are available here. I requested the kit with labels from them.

Here is the picture of the creepy, crawly materials (;-)) I received. I remembered to take the picture after I was half-way through the project :-(.

The materials were not cut to the exact size when I received. So I had to make some adjustments as I went on. I wish I had time to sew one more with my choice of fabrics. But in the future I will be sewing for this organization for sure.

Here is the finished bag. I had to hand bind the piping and lining together (after breaking my sewing machine needle), to make sure everything stayed in place.

I wish and pray that the child receives this bag will recover soon and let him/her keep on smiling.

Thank you for stopping by,
Jyothi :-)

Growing up QAL - Hand Embroidery(April)

Hello there,

Hope you are enjoying the spring :-). I for sure enjoy the sight of  birds chirping, tulips blooming, trees slowly turning greener, different colors of the spring.

As I have mentioned in my previous posts, I am doing a QAL with Alida @ http://alidatweloqdesigns.blogspot.com/p/growing-up-qal-2017.html.

Our task for the month of April is Hand Embroidery. I grew up with my sisters doing hand embroidery. But that art never fascinated me. I never felt like giving it a try.

For the first time, I tried hand embroidery. I realized that there is an amazing world out there. I didn't even know that we had to separate the strands of embroidery floss!!!! Thanks to Alida for this task. Even though I felt like this is too time consuming, I enjoyed trying different stitches. May be a smaller design will be helpful for beginners like me to avoid frustrations.

Here is my finished work :

Due to the space constraint, I reduced the picture size. If you want to zoom and see please feel free to visit our Flickr group.

Also, In my last months quilt along, I won a gift card of $40/- from Mad About Patchworks shop. Thanks to both Alida and Pam. Pam from the shop is very good at communication and shipment. Here is the fat quarter bundle (Wander bundle) and mini charm squares (Dessert Blooms) I ordered from her shop.

I am already dreaming of a design for a new baby quilt. We have a baby coming soon in the family. My brother-in Law and his wife are expecting the baby in less than 2 weeks and he/she will receive the quilt made by this fabric :-).

Hope you have wonderful weekend :-)

Illusion quilt block

Almost a year ago I came across some illusion pictures. First thing I wanted to do was to make an illusion quilt. There was this picture, which haunted me for a while. Picture of a vase/candle stand, created the illusion of 2 faces.

I wanted to avoid applique works and tried paper piecing, curved piecing...but none of them gave the look of applique work. But after almost a year, I ended up with the applique work.

Here is the front and back of the finished quilted block.

I ended up with a very small block of 11"x 9". I might have done the block little bigger...but it looks good as it is for now... It will be a nice wall hanging.

Hope you will stare at the picture twice !!!!!!!!!

Have a great weekend :-).

Jyothi
